Activities for 2008

Our first meeting of 2008 took place on February 24 with a Welcoming Coffee. Among the major activities to take place in 2008, we would like to mention the following: A children's program with music, songs and stories of "Cri-Cri", the popular cricket character created by the well-known Mexican composer of children's music, Don Fracisco Gabilondo Soler. This program will take place in mid July and the Estudiantina from the LaSalle University of Morelia has been invited to perform in this presentation. More details to be provided later.

We are in need of sponsorship both in-cash and in-kind for this project. Our other major project is the Latin American Cinema Festival. This will be our seventeenth annual film festival, and will take place on consecutive Saturdays in September and the first Saturday in October, 2008. The venue of the festival is still the Rio Theatre in Overland Park, Kansas. Each show starting at 11:00 a.m. More details to come.

My Mexican Shivah

The film My Mexican Shivah of Mexican film director Alejandro Springall, was shown at the Rio Theatre in Overland Park, as part of the XVI Latin American Cinema Festival of Kansas City.

This picture shows Mexican actor David Ostrosky, who was invited to the film presentation, addressing the Q&A session with the public.

Annual Picnic - 2006

The annual picnic of Sociedad Hidalgo took place on Sunday May 28 at Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas. A good number of members with their families and friends attended. All enjoyed the traditional hamburgers and grilled steaks as well as the different potluck dishes brought by everybody to share. The weather was nice and both children and adults enjoyed the happy time and friendship in that beautiful spring afternoon.
